Merry Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!
Our Christmas party will be this Thursday, December 16th in the afternoon. I am flying to Michigan Thursday night for my niece's wedding. Therefore, I will not be at school on Friday, December 17th. Many blessings for a beautiful holiday season this year.
Bromley Ball: K - 4th graders and their families are invited to attend the "Father/daughter and Mother/son dance held in the school cafeteria this Friday, December 10th
Bromley and Barnes & Noble Book Fair – Mark your calendars for Monday, December 6 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.. for Bromley East night at the Westminster Barnes and Noble located at 92nd Avenue and Sheridan Blvd. (9370 Sheridan Blvd Westminster, CO 80030) What a great way to begin holiday shopping with an evening of games, music, artwork, scavenger hunts, and other fun activities to kick off the holidays as a school community. Barnes and Noble will donate a percentage of the in-store and online sales from that evening through December 12 to our school. Thanks to Special Education Paraprofessional Tori Chin for setting up this fundraiser for the school. For more information you may contact Tori at tchin@bromleyeastcs.org
Attention Parents: Please join your Kindergarten through fourth grader for a fantastic play here at Bromley – Imagination Makers play, “Colorado Children,” transports students back to a time in the early 1900’s when an eight-year-old boy helped his family pay the bills by having a job in a coal mine near Canon City. After seeing all nine true stories of these young pioneers, your children will feel a deeper appreciation for their 21st century comforts. But it wasn't all hard work for those early Colorado kids. Some of these true tales show how they also had fun in the still wild, west! This fast moving, toe tapping, musical play is performed by four professional actors and one musician. It is likely to inspire some lively discussions with you and your child.
We know exposing your child to cultural events can be expensive. Thanks to funds from our school and a grant from the Adams Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, Imagination Makers is performing this play at our school at no cost to you. You are warmly invited to “come on down” and see a slice of Colorado history step off the page and onto the stage!

Thank you for making my birthday very special last week. What a great way to start the day...receiving a flower from each child last Tuesday on my birthday. Thank you again.
If you have not turned in your permission slip and $1 for the Imagination Makers production, please do so as soon as you can.
Greek Gods or Goddessess reports are due Monday, November 22nd. The children are so excited to do this project. The children brought home packets of information to utiltize for their report. Thank you for understanding that some of the information (words and pictures) on the Internet are inappropriate for our second graders. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school or at home. Thanks again.
I am very proud of the effort the children are putting into their work especially on their comprehension tests. Outstanding job everyone. Keep stretching your brain power!

**Place a pamper chef order
**Place a delicious pie order for your Thanksgiving dinner
**Go to Lone Star restraurant on Nov. 22nd...25% of your dinner bill is donated to our kids

Thursday, November 11th is picture day for retakes or students who were absent on previous picture day.
Help your fellow man with donating to Bromley East's can food drive. The National Junior Honor Society is collecting non-perishable food items from November 8th through 18th. Please help out if you can. Thank you for your generousity.
Help our 8th graders earn money for Sea Camp this year. Lone Star restraurant, here in Brighton, is partnering up with our 8th graders to assist their cause. On Monday, November 22th from 5:30 - 8:00 Lone Star Steakhouse is donating 25% of your dinner tab to our 8th graders here at Bromley East. You need to present a flyer on this day. If you're interested, please let me know and I will put a copy of the flyer in your child's homework folder. :)
A big thank you goes out to Mr. Ham, Mrs. Conklin, Mrs. Newton, Mrs. Mandujano, and Mrs. Gallegos for your assitance in the classroom last Thursday during our Halloween party. More thank yous go out to the following families who donated food, candy and goody bags: The Gallegoes, The Grondolski's, The Ham's, The Mandujano's, The McGrady's, The Rodriguez', The Newtons, The Smela's. (I'm sorry if I forgot to mention a family's name.)
The children, parents and myself had a fabulous time at our Halloween celebration. It was extra special because the children earned it. Ironically, the students are asking for another opportunity to "build a pilgrim" during the month of November, (just liked the building of Mr. Frankenstein.) What amazing students to raise their own bar!

The children and I were very disappointed that we had not earned our Halloween party. We only have three pieces to add to Mr. Frankenstien. We anticipate him being completely built by next Thursday or Friday. I truly would love to have a celebration on either one of these days. If you would like to come in for our celebration, we would love to see you. Mrs. Gallegos has offered to purchase pizza for us on this day. Therefore, the children do not have to bring a lunch...we will eat in our classroom. No worries though, the children and I will be very ecstatic to let you know when Frankenstien is built and what day we will have our party. Thank you for your understanding and patience in this manner.
Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to come and meet with me during parent/teacher conferences. It was very nice to sit down and discuss your child's successes and our new goals for the next marking period.
Spirit week is coming up. Basically here is the breakdown of information:

Tuesday: Theme is "A Blast From the Past" Students may wear anything from the past.
Wednesday: No Dress Up Day = School Uniforms
Thursday: Theme is "Favorite Sports Team" Day

Parent Teacher Conferences are this week.
The sign up sheet will be posted on my door next to a sign that reads, Please knock at your scheduled time. To assist in being on time for all my conferences I will set a timer for our allotted time and I am also asking if you can knock on the door at your scheduled time also to assist me. However, if we need more time to discuss your child's progress, we can set up a longer meeting for another time that works with your schedule.

Hello, there are still some families that have not signed up for parent/teacher conferences. If it is not conducive for you to meet at school, I would love to schedule a time where we can have a phone conference. Please let me know if you would like to schedule an appointment at school or a phone conference. Thank you.
Thank you for all your help in making our Harvest Hop a success. Thank you for the donations of candy, decorating our hallway to look magical, participating in working at the hop and attending the festivities. It was great to see so many families from our class there.
Thank you to Ms. Amy, our Homeroom helper, for informing the parents of the activities and encouraging volunteers to help setup, run and tear down. I appreciated it all.
A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Hunt for sharing her talents in making the castle scene life like right down to the chain linked draw bridge, water and flowers. Thank you for your time and fabulous talent. Our hallway was fabulous thanks to your designs and all the volunteers that put it together. :) You Rock!
During this up coming week, the children will have vision and hearing testing. The following week will be parent/teacher conferences. If you haven't signed up yet, please let me know what time will work for you and your family.
This week begins our unit on Japan and descriptive writing.
Enjoy your week.

First and foremost...my parents rock! Thank you for all your assistance, support, and concerns to guide our children up the ladder of education.
First the assistance: A big thank you goes out to the following families for making fortune cookies. The Gallegos family, the Day family, the Quynn family, The Gorsgner family, the Mandujano family. The children loved reading their fortunes. If you typed them up, could I have a copy of your "fortunes" they truly were fantastic. My husband and I attempted making them last weekend...the final result...a lot of laughter, and extremely grateful to my parents who were successful...
Second, a big thank you goes out to the Mc Donald family, the Hunt family, the Gorsegner family and the McGrady family for volunteering to help with our Harvest Hop festivities. We still need your help with decorating the hallway this Tuesday, October 12th at 1:00 p.m. in our hallway. I also need help running the carnival booth on Friday, October 15th for 1/2 hour shifts. Please let me know if you are available. Thank you very much.
Next, I appreciate your support in and out of the classroom. Thank you to the Cordell's, Gast's, Goodrick's, Gorsegner, Ham's, Mandujano's, McDonald's, Newton's, Pudder's, and the Quynn's (to name a few) for working on projects for our class in the classroom or at home.
Finally, I am grateful for your concerns pertaining to your child's behavior and academic progress. I truly believe we will make gigantic leaps in our children's education this year. Thank you for being actively involved and keeping me informed of any issues or concerns that arise.
Thank you for sending in your choices for parent/teacher conferences. I have one conference request sheet without a name on it. Please, if you sent your sheet in and I have not responded to you, please let me know...I believe this request sheet is yours. :)
As always, please call if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks during parent/teacher conferences.
Oh yes, one more thing, conferences have the tendancy to go over their allotted times, I will do my best to keep everything flowing according to our sign up sheet. If we need extra time, we can set up an additional conference time. Thank you in advance. See you soon.

Whew, our testing has come to a close. Parent Teacher conferences will be held October 25th through 28th. I will send home a sign up sheet shortly for you to request three choices on the time that best suits your family's needs. I would love to have 100% on meeting with the parents of my Rocking Second Graders. I can meet before, during and after school to meet your time frame. We will discuss the results of the testing and your child's progress to date thus far. Thanks!
October is fire safety month. Please discuss with your child two ways to get out of the house if the house is on fire, decide on a meeting place that is away from the fire, discuss the reasons and why you call 911 and last but certainly not least, check the batteries in your smoke alarm. I know these are simply things that your child already knows about....lets be extra safe and talk about them again. Opening up the discussion reiterates the importance and making correct choices to stay safe.
Our second graders will have their hearing and vision tested here at school on Wednesday, October 20th. Our nurse is requesting volunteers for the week of October 18th to assist her with this task. Please call her at 720.685.3297 as soon as possible to sign up. Even a couple of hours would greatly help out. Thank you again for all your help.
Our Harvest Hop is in the evening of October 15th. Our class needs volunteers to work this spectacular event. There is also a contest on which class donates the most candy to be handed out that evening. If you are unable to volunteer for the evening, how about helping the cause and donating candy. Our students will have a safe environment to go around the school and recieve candy that was donated by you! Thank you in advanced. :)
Again, I would love to watch your child demonstrate their talents outside of the classroom. If they play a sport or participate in an activity, please send me their schedule and I will make every attempt to come watch them shine outside our classroom.
In closing, if you should have any questions, concerns or positive comments, please feel free to email or call me at school or at home. My home number is 303.498.0740.

Grandparents tea is finally here! This Monday, at 9:30 until 10:15, the second grade class will take time to recognize some very special people in the world...our loving grandparents. We look forward to entertaining them with a rap, singing a song and reciting a poem. After our display of affection, we will share lemonade, ice tea and muffins with our grandparents. Don't worry though, if your child's grandparent can not make it...your child will adopt a friend's grandparents for the tea.

If you would love a fun website to assist in learning the spelling words, go to: www.spellingcity.com. You will not be disappointed. Let me know how you like it. I have utilized this website in previous years and forgot all about it. Thank you Mrs. Gast for sharing this website with me and our class.

Just a quick reminder about the policy and procedures on second graders not turning in their daily homework. This information can be found in your informational packet passed out at the beginning of the school year:
Homework must be done to each student’s potential or it may have to be redone. If homework (math homelink and reading of the decodable book) is not turned in, the student will have to stay after school to complete it. Your child will make a phone call to you to let you know they will be staying after school. Please be here at 3:45 to pick them up. Your child will be excused once they are finished. If staying after school does not work, it will be up to you, the parent, to ensure the homework is completed that evening and turned in the next day. A late grade may be assessed and your child’s work ethic grade will be affected.

Well our first week is successfully behind us. I truly hope your child had a great week. We will be focusing on classroom manners, following the new policies and procedures and just getting comfortable with the new expectations of being in 2nd grade.
Remember: Please always call me at school or at home if you have any questions and concerns. A big thank you goes out already to the families who volunteered to take home some projects and complete them at home. My parents totally rock...thank you for bringing in the completed projects so quickly.
Our first Scholastic book order information will be coming home soon. Look for the Scholastic catalogs in your child's Friday folder. Thank you Mrs. Gallegos for volunteering to be our "Scholastic Organizer."
