Week 34: April 18, 2011

We have had some wonderful family members come to our classroom and be great speakers on different learning topics. The end of the school year is creeping up on us very quickly...but the learning is not over. We still have outstanding speakers coming to share their knowledge, exciting Ellis Island to be shared with our 6th graders, our field trip to Berry Patch farms, viewing our busy ants in their contained ant farm habitat, watching our pupa caterpillars grow and build their chrysalis around their body to begin the metamorphosis process and transform into a beautiful Painted Lady butterflies. And that's just the extras!

WEEK 33: APRIL 11, 2011

Unbelievable how the time is ticking away and our children are almost ready for next year. However, some habits need to still be refined. Please remind your child of the importance of always doing their best and turn in their work. Please look over the infinite campus gradebook with your child to see if he/she is missing any work that they have not turned in. Spring is in the air...and so is rambunctious behavior. Please remind your child that there is still important learning that needs to be accomplished. Thank you.

Please look over the weekly news section of this blog. There are important upcoming dates for you to be aware of.

In your Friday folders last week, information came home about the school board and the elections. Please review and let your voice be heard.

A big welcome goes out to our new student, Savannah Thomas and her family. They moved here from New Mexico and are a welcomed addition to our 2nd grade family.

FYI: I will be absent on Thursday, April 21st and Good Friday, April 22nd. My family and I will be out of the town for this special weekend participating in family traditions. Thank you for your understanding in advanced. :)

One more additional information to pass on to you from the students and myself. We took a class vote and would like to adopt an endangered species through the World Wildlife Fund (WWF.) We have chosen the emperior penguin. A donation of $2.50 from each child would assist us in adopting this animal. Through our donation package, we will receive a certificate of adoption as well as a plush animal. The children are very excited to support, protect and preserve the wildlife in our world. Sending cash would be the easiest, however, if you would like to send a check that would be fine too. Thank you. If you need any more information, please feel free to stop by so we could visit.

Week 32: April 4, 2011

Thank you to everyone who brought in reams of paper to assist in our paper shortage. Because of your donation, as well as Avery Day's family bringing in 14 reams...our class has earned the free dress day and pizza party at school on our first day back from spring break...April 4th. It would be extra special if a few families wanted to donate a veggie tray, some fruit, and perhaps a little dessert. I have juice boxes in the room as well as I will take up a count and personally purchase milk for them on this day.

If you want to donate any of these extra food suggestions, please feel free to call me at home so I can organize this. My number is (303) 498-0740. My husband and I will be in Florida from Thursday, March 31st till Sunday, April 3rd finalizing my father's affairs. Please leave a message of what you want to bring and I will get back with you on Sunday night. Thanks for your participation in our celebration.

Again, everyone in my classroom has a free dress day on Monday, April 4th.

Some students are forgetting to bring in their homework and/or their decodeable reading book on a day to day basis. Please help by reminding them to double check their backpack to make sure they have everything they need to be prepared for school. Practice makes perfect so its best the children continue to practice being organized and responsible.

Information on a family tree project is coming home Monday, April 4th. This project is not due until Wednesday, April 20th. An oral presentation accompanies this project.

The students and I truly enjoyed the celebrated day of Dr. Seuss on March 2nd. This reading day is encourage and promoted by the National Education Association. "Read Across America" encourages classes across the nation to stop and enjoy taking an adventure through reading books. As a class, we discussed what we already knew and what we wanted to learn about Dr. Seuss himself. Later in the day, during focus time, some students and I went to the tech lab and researched these specific questions...and much more information about Theodor "Ted" Seuss Geisel. Throughout our busy day, we had special readers such as Ms. Harrell, Ms. Sheldon, Ms. Spare and Ms. Aramburo as well as two of our own classmates put on a puppet show. At the end of the puppet show, our fabulous classmates then asked for their autographs...it was a proud and exciting moment for everyone that day. Please view our pictures under the heading Exploring Learning and Smiling for the Camera.

Our Spring Fund Raiser is currently underway. This is one of our biggest fund raisers...thanks to you! All orders and monies are due on March 15th. Thank you for all that you do and your support to help make BECS the best!

Our 3rd grade marking period is coming to a close. Please have you and your child go over his/her grades on Infinite Campus to double check they have turned in all their work. Some students are missing certain assignments due to no name on their paper or it is incomplete and still in their desk.

Please help us better to serve our children with the best education possible. Take the online survey this week. It only takes a couple of minutes and the benefits will be so beneficial to our children. During conferences, come a little earlier or stay a little later to take the survey in our school library. Or maybe you would rather have a cup of coffee in your hand in the privacy of your home...either way please take a couple minutes out and take the school-wide survey. Thank you very much.
School pictures are for elementary this Monday, February 14th. Students must wear their school uniform. Class and individual pictures will be taken at this time.
Talent show tryouts are coming up. Information came home in Friday folders this last weekend.
I will be having my parent/teacher conferences this Monday through Thursday. I will do my best at staying on time. Here are a few tips to help in this matter:
1. Please arrive on time, or a little early to take your survey in the library. :)

3. Knock on the door when it is your time to assist in wrapping up the previous conference.
