Exploring, Learning and Smiling for the Camera

At this site I will begin to post photographs of your children during their 2nd grade year here at Bromley East. I hope you and your child enjoy viewing themselves and their classmates in our learning environment.

Thank you Ms. Bonnie DeLong, Kacie's grandmother, for doing a presentation on the Tlingit Nation who lived in the Pacific Northwest.  Ms. Bonnie read us a story, described the geographic location of this tribe, showed us a video of many nations coming together for a ceremonial dance, taught us a dance, described the meaning of the number 4 found in blankets and rugs, etc., (four seasons, four ordinal positions to name 2,)  She translated vocabulary, described a potlache, and honored us with beautiful native music while sharing her knowledge.  Thank you so much for an enjoyable way to learn more information about some of our First Americans.

Thank you so very much for being our story teller and passing on life stories about the Tlingit Nation.

Thank you Mr. Trabert for presenting a re-enactment of the Battle of the Glorieta Pass that took place in New Mexico during the Civil War.

The Civil War was a very deadly battle with soldiers from the Union and Confederate sides only being 20 feet away shooting at each other.

One of Mr. Trabert's responsibilites is making maps.  Here is a map that Mr. Trabert made and demonstrated the exact location of Mr. Johnson's backyard farm where the Battle of the Glorieta Pass took place.  The map also showed the mountain top range where one group of Union soldiers were located prior to blowing up the Confederate Army's supplies.  He utilized GI figures, flags and cannons to re-enact this battle.  It was one of the turning points of the Union Army winning during the Civil War.

DR SEUSS DAY:  Ms. Harrell is reading to us about the Snitches.  More pictures to follow this week.

During Focus Time some of the students and myself are studying a unit on Penguins.  The pictures below show us being Emperor Penguins and exploring how the Dads' keep the eggs safe from -50 degree weather.  The "Emperor Penguins" in my class our utilizing their plumb bellies not only as a mean to keep their eggs, (softballs), warm; but their plumb bellies are like a third hand to hold the egg on their feet.
