Week 34: April 18, 2011

We have had some wonderful family members come to our classroom and be great speakers on different learning topics. The end of the school year is creeping up on us very quickly...but the learning is not over. We still have outstanding speakers coming to share their knowledge, exciting Ellis Island to be shared with our 6th graders, our field trip to Berry Patch farms, viewing our busy ants in their contained ant farm habitat, watching our pupa caterpillars grow and build their chrysalis around their body to begin the metamorphosis process and transform into a beautiful Painted Lady butterflies. And that's just the extras!

WEEK 33: APRIL 11, 2011

Unbelievable how the time is ticking away and our children are almost ready for next year. However, some habits need to still be refined. Please remind your child of the importance of always doing their best and turn in their work. Please look over the infinite campus gradebook with your child to see if he/she is missing any work that they have not turned in. Spring is in the air...and so is rambunctious behavior. Please remind your child that there is still important learning that needs to be accomplished. Thank you.

Please look over the weekly news section of this blog. There are important upcoming dates for you to be aware of.

In your Friday folders last week, information came home about the school board and the elections. Please review and let your voice be heard.

A big welcome goes out to our new student, Savannah Thomas and her family. They moved here from New Mexico and are a welcomed addition to our 2nd grade family.

FYI: I will be absent on Thursday, April 21st and Good Friday, April 22nd. My family and I will be out of the town for this special weekend participating in family traditions. Thank you for your understanding in advanced. :)

One more additional information to pass on to you from the students and myself. We took a class vote and would like to adopt an endangered species through the World Wildlife Fund (WWF.) We have chosen the emperior penguin. A donation of $2.50 from each child would assist us in adopting this animal. Through our donation package, we will receive a certificate of adoption as well as a plush animal. The children are very excited to support, protect and preserve the wildlife in our world. Sending cash would be the easiest, however, if you would like to send a check that would be fine too. Thank you. If you need any more information, please feel free to stop by so we could visit.

Week 32: April 4, 2011

Thank you to everyone who brought in reams of paper to assist in our paper shortage. Because of your donation, as well as Avery Day's family bringing in 14 reams...our class has earned the free dress day and pizza party at school on our first day back from spring break...April 4th. It would be extra special if a few families wanted to donate a veggie tray, some fruit, and perhaps a little dessert. I have juice boxes in the room as well as I will take up a count and personally purchase milk for them on this day.

If you want to donate any of these extra food suggestions, please feel free to call me at home so I can organize this. My number is (303) 498-0740. My husband and I will be in Florida from Thursday, March 31st till Sunday, April 3rd finalizing my father's affairs. Please leave a message of what you want to bring and I will get back with you on Sunday night. Thanks for your participation in our celebration.

Again, everyone in my classroom has a free dress day on Monday, April 4th.

Some students are forgetting to bring in their homework and/or their decodeable reading book on a day to day basis. Please help by reminding them to double check their backpack to make sure they have everything they need to be prepared for school. Practice makes perfect so its best the children continue to practice being organized and responsible.

Information on a family tree project is coming home Monday, April 4th. This project is not due until Wednesday, April 20th. An oral presentation accompanies this project.

We will be looking for parent and/or grandparent volunteers to assist in our annual "Ellis Island Immigration Day" that we do with the sixth graders. This activity is tentatively set up for the week of April 11th -15th. Information will be coming home in your child's Friday folder. We would love to see you there.

Week 31: March 21, 2011

We are studying The Civil War in Core, counting back change with money in math, reviewing a fictional book in writing, drawing conclusions, main ideas and supporting details in our reading unit on courage. Finally, in spelling we are studying prefixes, suffixes and the proper way to use quotation marks in dialog speech.

Happy St. Patrick's Week! On Thursday, students can help support the 8th graders by donating $1 and then wear jeans and green to school that day. Again, any student may participate if they donate a $1, proceeds will go to the 8th graders here at Bromley for graduation.

The Spring Fund Raiser is coming to an end. Please have all orders and monies turned in to me no later than Tuesday, March 15th.
